Chicago Storms - Another Day of Severe Storms

FRONT COMING THROUGH THE OHIO VALLEY WILL BE THE FOCAL POINT FOR TS3 TYPE STORMS. ALSO, THE THREAT OF SEVERE STORMS AROUND EDOUARD.

Comments of the day ... I hope to have a video posted at some point this morning. We are changing the video process today, so there will be a delay.

I just want to comment about the Chicago storms. I watched some of the videos of the storms on youtube today and all I can say is that the folks at Wrigley Field did everything right getting the people under the stadium. This is a good example of how stadium management can have a process that protects people from harm when severe storms are coming across the area. After a frustrating year of severe weather, I am glad to finally see a good example of how being prepared for severe weather can prevent a disaster. I congratulate the folks at Wrigley Field for a great job protecting people from harm during last night's severe storms. See more on accuweather.com

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's Family

As Americans scrambled for the first sight of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s infant twins, Knox and Vivienne Marcheline on the front of People, our neighbors in the U.K snagged their initial glimpse of the newborns on the $14 million cover of Hello Magazine.

"From the money the Jolie Pitt Foundation receives from People and Hello! several local French entities could benefit including the children's hospital where the babies were born. Even though the south of France is thought of as wealthy, there's a substantial homeless and poverty class including in nearby Cannes. The Pitts' money could be used in specific ways there as well.

The Foundation currently claims $6 million in assets, excluding a $1 million pledge they made earlier this summer to the children from war families. The new money could bring their endowment to $20 million. Expect at least some of that to go to families in New Orleans and the American Gulf Coast where Pitt has shown in interest in Hurricane Katrina and Rita survivors who are still suffering." Ron Suskind - true & lies

Ron Suskind is a staff writer for the Wall Street Journal.
In 1995, he won the Pulitzer Prize in Feature Writing for a two-part series about the high-school years of Cedric Jennings. Suskind and his family live in Washington, D.C.

A new book by Ron Suskind claims that the White House ordered the CIA to forge a back-dated, handwritten letter from the head of Iraqi intelligence to Saddam Hussein. Suskind writes in “The Way of the World”.

While the public and political realms struggle, The Way of the World simultaneously follows an ensemble of characters in America and abroad who are turning fear and frustration into a desperate—and often daring—brand of human salvation.

Newsweek floats Rattner as Treasury secretary

It's only early August, and the party conventions haven't yet crowned their respective nominees, but Newsweek already is profiling Democratic fundraiser and dealmaker Steven Rattner, and the story reads as if it's foregone conclusion that Sen. Barack Obama will reside at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Why else would the magazine profile the Quadrangle Group founder and ask "will he go to Washington?" if it's not assuming Obama will win in November? The story goes so far as to handicap the possibility of Obama tapping Rattner, the former Morgan Stanley and Lazard media investment banker-turned-buyout maven, as Treasury secretary.

Although Newsweek floats the idea--there's been speculation about Rattner at Treasury for years--it then tosses cold water on the possibility by arguing that his lack of experience as a CEO of a major bank will likely quash any chance of receiving the "favor" despite his Obama fundraising and efforts to bring Democrats together after a bruising campaign. It's hard to fathom that bank CEOship is really that necessary, particularly given how poorly the banks have performed.

John A. "Junior" Gotti has been arrested...

John A. "Junior" Gotti has been arrested on charges linking him to three New York murders, a law enforcement official said Tuesday.

Gotti, 44, was arrested by the FBI at his Long Island home. Federal authorities in Tampa, Fla., are expected to announce a racketeering indictment, charging Gotti with murder conspiracy in connection with killings in the late 1980s and early 1990s, according to the official, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because a formal announcement had not yet been made.

A separate indictment charges five other men with racketeering. It alleges some of them were involved with Gotti in one of the three New York murders, according to the official. It also alleges a fourth killing in New York, not linked to Gotti.

Gotti and two other suspects arrested in New York are expected to appear in Manhattan federal court on Tuesday for a removal hearing. At least one other man has been arrested in Florida.

A call to Gotti's attorney was not immediately returned.

Gotti is the son of "Dapper Don" John Gotti, the late Gambino family boss.
